Beth Leber, Certified Pilates Instructor

Created by Joseph Pilates (1880-1967) Pilates was designed to give the body a perfect balance of strength and flexibility. Using the most effective aspects of yoga, gymnastics, skiing, self-defense, dance, circus training and weight training, Joseph was able to create this interrelated system of exercise. Pilates began to gain popularity with dancers in New York, when Joseph and his wife Clara first began teaching their exercises there. Each movement was designed to target the body’s deeper muscles as you train yourself to control your body’s alignment. Pilates continues to grow and adapt today, while keeping the core principles intact.

Pilates can be integrated with many other exercise forms, and offers a balanced, non-impact method that works for the very fit as well as the not so fit, injured or older people.
